ASHEBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A suspect has been arrested following a hit-and-run in Asheboro last week that left a woman with severe injuries, according to a State Highway Patrol news release.
At 5:45 p.m. on March 13, troopers responded to the report of a crash on US 64 near Westbury Drive in Randolph County.
A 38-year-old Asheboro woman was going east on US 64 in a 2016 Toyota car.
A black 2017 Lexus RX 350 SUV, also going east, passed her unlawfully in a turning lane, trooper say.
The Toyota went off the road to the right and then hit an embankment and a tree.
The SUV drove away from the scene, and the Asheboro woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Silvano Perez Mejia, 53, of Asheboro, was arrested and charged with:
- felony hit-and-run involving serious injury
- reckless driving
- improper passing
- no operator’s license
He was given a $25,000 bond.
