Wanted sex offender in custody after exposing himself, hitting victim's car at Burlington Walmart

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — A wanted sex offender is now in custody a week after allegedly exposing himself to a woman and crashing into her car, according to the Burlington Police Department.

On Feb. 4, officers came to the Walmart on Graham-Hopedale Road after getting a report of indecent exposure.

A woman told police that a man exposed himself to her while she was walking in the parking lot. She was able to get to her car and call 911 as the man continued exposing himself to her.

Police say that the suspect ran to his truck once he realized that the victim was calling 911 and backed into her car as he drove away.

The suspect was later identified as Robert Lloyd May, 36, of Burlington.

Investigators say that May was arrested for indecent exposure at the very same Walmart location in 2022 and is listed in the national sex offender registry as a lifetime offender.

On Saturday, May was taken into custody and served with outstanding warrants for indecent exposure, damage to personal property, assault with a deadly weapon and reckless driving. He was given a $25,000 secured bond.
