Walkertown man charged after toddler seriously burned with hot water was child's stepfather, warrants indicate

WALKERTOWN, N.C. (WGHP) — A man who has been charged with abusing a young child was the little boy’s stepfather, according to court documents.

On Thursday, James Wilford Huff, 34, was arrested and charged with intentional child abuse inflicting serious injury.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, on July 21 just before midnight, they were called to a home in Walkertown about suspected child abuse. Arriving deputies learned a juvenile may have pulled a pot of boiling water off the stove and onto them.

Investigators say, however, that the child was placed into a tub of scalding-hot water. The warrants say that the four-year-old had serious burns on the lower part of his body after his stepfather, Huff, allegedly put him in the tub of hot water.

He was given a bond of $300,000.

“Any threat or harm to our children becomes a priority to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. Today, we arrested Wilford Huff and charged him with intentional child abuse inflicting serious injury. As we have stated, our most precious asset is our children, who are our future, and the FCSO will do everything earthly possible to serve and protect them,” Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough said when Huff was charged on Thursday.
