Two dead, one hospitalized after shooting on Melrose Avenue in Northwest Roanoke

The Roanoke City Police Department is investigating a shooting that left two people dead and one hurt.

At about 10:40 p.m., officers were called to the 1200 block of Melrose Avenue for a shots fired report, according to authorities.

Upon arrival, officers located a woman lying outside of the residence and a man inside a parked vehicle, both with what appeared to be critical gunshot wounds. Roanoke Fire-EMS personnel pronounced the two victims dead at the scene.

Another man was also injured in the shooting and was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, according to Roanoke Police.

Roanoke Police told 10 News that the incident started as a verbal altercation and eventually escalated to a shooting.

No suspects were located on scene and no arrests have been made as this is an ongoing homicide investigation.

Roanoke Police arrived at the scene to find two people who had died as a result of the shooting.

We’re told no one is in custody at this time in connection with the incident.

A portion of Melrose Avenue is still blocked off to traffic as officers respond to the scene.

This comes on the heels of another Roanoke homicide that left one man dead. That shooting happened early Sunday morning in the 800 block of Westside Boulevard Northwest.

This now marks 27 homicides in Roanoke this year.
