This North Carolina lake is closed next week

MONROE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — One of Monroe’s reservoirs is closing for several days next week, the city reported Friday.

Lake Monroe, located south of the city, will be closed Monday and Tuesday, June 17-18. The lake will also be closed Wednesday, per its usual schedule, and is slated to reopen Thursday. City officials site “unforeseen personnel circumstances.”

Monroe’s other public bodies of water, Lake Twitty and Lake Lee, remain open during their regular operating times. All three lakes were constructed to supply drinking water to the city, but recreational activity is typically allowed from March 1 to Nov. 1 each year.

Boats and vessels need to be no larger than 20 feet in length with motors at 20 horsepower or lower. No sailing vessels are permitted on Lake Lee or Lake Monroe.
