The word spoken of the Lord fulfilled

We read last Friday how the wise men searched the Scriptures diligently enough to understand that the Messiah/Christ Jesus had been born in Bethlehem; they traveled there to find and worship Him. Hebrews 11:6 tell us, …“for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” So let us also, as those wise men, search the Scriptures, and grow in our wisdom, knowledge and faith. (Psalm 40:7, John 5:39).

In the Word of God, especially the Gospels, it is recorded time after time, and again, “that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet,” and “as it is written in the prophets,” then also Jesus’ words, “These are the words which I spoke unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the Psalms, concerning Me,” (Luke 24:44.

We will see the facts more clearly, and know the Lord more fully if we ask Him to reveal Himself through His Word, and if we allow His Spirit to guide our hearts and minds in His truth. Here is an excellent prayer I’ve found, and pray myself, Psalm 25:4-5, “Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth, and teach me: for You are the God of my salvation:” So let us see for ourselves some of these firm prophecies, and their clear fulfillment in the Word of God. My friend, “Know the Lord!”

Zechariah 9:9 (487 BC, yes 487 years before Christ) “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold (look at intently, take notice, observe and consider carefully), thy King comes unto you: He is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon a donkey, and upon the foal of a donkey.”

Now look at Matthew 21:1-9 “All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet…And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them, and brought the donkey, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set Him thereon…and the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna (God deliver us we pray) to the son of David: Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the Highest. And when He was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved…”

Next, Isaiah 61:1-2 (698 BC) “…the Lord has anointed Me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He has sent Me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and opening of the prison to them that are bound; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

Now 698 years later, in Luke 4:14-21 we see Jesus reading the words of this prophecy, closing the Book, and saying, “this day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. And all bare Him witness at the gracious words, which proceeded out of His mouth.” A short while later in verse 32 we read, “And they were astonished at His doctrine: for His word was with power.” Jesus was God’s ambassador Son, and Salvation, come to tell the good news to those with faith, how to be set free from the chains of sin and darkness, how to be healed from their brokenness, and receive light and life in Him.

Look at these miracles of God, prophesied in Isaiah 35:5-6 “Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. Then shall the lame man leap as an hart (a dear), and the tongue of the dumb sing”. The complete and literal fulfillment of this prophecy is recorded throughout the Gospels, but look at this reference in Matthew 15:30-31 “And great multitudes came unto Him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and He healed them: In so much that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.”

Jesus healed the blind, deaf, lame, diseased, demon possessed, (He made them “perfectly whole”, Matthew 14:36) and He also pardoned sin, (Mark 2:5-12). Jesus proved Himself the One Who had been prophesied of and had come in fulfillment of those many ancient prophecies spoken centuries before. These are historic events recorded so we can know to trust upon Him. John 20:31 “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name.”

By faith, today we still see God do miracles in the power of Jesus’ name! Many have experienced Jesus restoring them to health, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Multitudes have received His forgiveness and freedom from the bondage of our sinful nature, and the guilt of our past failures. Multitudes now sing His praises! How about you?
