Teen arrested after assault at Tanglewood Park near pool, Forsyth County deputies say

FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A teen accused of assaulting someone at the Aquatic Center at Tanglewood Park was arrested on Tuesday night.

FOX8 is told the assault happened around 6:40 p.m., and deputies pursued a suspect who was later identified as 18-year-old Diego Vieyraramirez.

The pursuit was called off, and the suspect was arrested hours later in connection to the assault and not stopping for deputies.

The victim is a 51-year-old man who is expected to survive. At this time, it is unclear how he was injured.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office says this was an isolated incident that started as an argument between two people who knew each other.

“We can have … close to a thousand people in here throughout a day … That comes with a lot of responsibility for our staff and our management,” said Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Marketing and Events Manager Drew Wiles.

All park staff are trained on what to do and who to call in violent situations.

“We are very pleased with how staff handled everything. They did exactly by the book, and the proper parties were contacted,” Wiels said.

The park has contracted security workers on-site and a camera set up in the pool area.

Tanglewood Park is a 1,200-acre property, and we do everything in our power to make sure it is safe and enjoyable for the public. When you have that many people and that big of a property, things can happen, whether you are at Tanglewood Park or anywhere else,” Wiles said.

The pool was shut down early after the assault and is back open on Wednesday for regular hours.
