Shepherd’s House receives Food Lion grant

The Shepherd’s House recently received $2,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation just in time to help feed local residents. The Shepherd’s House will use the gift to keep its food shelves full

“We are very grateful for the grant Food Lion has given us. We are also grateful for the amazing partnership Food Lion provides us. The local stores are always willing to assist us in a time of need,” said Executive Director Mary Boyles.

“The amount awarded to The Shepherd’s House will be used to purchase food items for our clients,” the organization said in a statement announcing the grant. “One of the main factors in our need is that we cannot feed all of our clients on our current food donations. We simply do not receive enough food donations. In 2018 alone we served 19,676 collective meals to the homeless.

“The other issue we have to face is clients with special dietary needs or our young children/infants that need supplemental nutrition. Most of our donations do not meet these two circumstances.”

Established in 2001, the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $12 million in grants.
