Roanoke Police identify victim of deadly shooting

The Roanoke Police Department has identified the man killed in a shooting last weekend.

The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Uhura U. Willis, of Roanoke.

UPDATE

The Roanoke Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one man dead early Saturday.

Police said at around 4:55 a.m., the department was notified of a person with a gunshot wound in the 400 block of Patton Avenue NW.

Responding officers found an adult male with what appeared to be critical gunshot wounds lying in a wooded area of Patton Avenue NW.

We’re told officers immediately began rendering aid until Roanoke Fire-EMS arrived. The man was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to authorities, details about what led to the shooting are limited at this time. Officers located evidence of a shooting in the 400 block of Patton Avenue NW, but police said no suspects were located on the scene and no arrests have been made.

RPD said the preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect is traveling in a maroon 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude with license plates TSB7817.

Detectives and officers are actively searching for the vehicle and its occupants. If you see the vehicle, you’re asked to call Roanoke Police.

“Do not attempt to stop, apprehend, or detain the Jeep or occupants,” Roanoke Police said in a press release.

Roanoke Police are investigating a homicide in the 400 block of Patton Avenue NW.

At this time, police do not believe there is a direct threat to the community regarding this incident.

Patton Ave. NW is closed to through traffic from 4th St. NW to 5th St. NW.

The road will be closed for some time. Please avoid traveling in this area while officers work.
