A 30-year-old Roanoke man has been charged in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old woman.
Roanoke Police have identified and charged 30-year-old Lavon M. Belcher, of Roanoke, in the Jan. 10 murder of Brooks Mullen.
As we’ve previously reported, on Jan. 10, Mullen was found outside a home in the 3500 block of Yellow Mountain Road SE unresponsive and injured. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Roanoke Police Department, this case has been seen before the May meeting of the Roanoke City Grand Jury, where indictments of 1st Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony were issued.
During the course of the investigation, Belcher was eventually identified as a suspect.
Roanoke Police collaborated with the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force to locate Belcher.
On Tuesday afternoon, the task force found Belcher in a Roanoke home and took him into custody. The previously mentioned indictments will be served without incident.
Authorities say this remains an ongoing investigation.
