As officers arrived, the suspect left the area in a dark truck. Officers spotted the truck nearby and stopped it. The driver, Brandon James Simmons, 42, of Lexington, was identified as the suspect and arrested. Officers seized a loaded handgun, multiple tablets of LSD and other drug paraphernalia.

Simmons was charged with first-degree burglary, assault by pointing a gun, assault on a female, attempted first-degree forcible sex offense, false imprisonment, possession of a schedule I controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while impaired, no operators license and carrying a concealed weapon. He received no bond.

“This incident appears to be a random act of violence,” police said in a news release. “Simmons was not known to the victims in this case. It is currently unclear to investigators why Simmons chose this house to commit his crimes.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Lexington Crimestoppers at (336) 243-2400.
