North Carolina school bus driver assaulted by middle school student

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A school bus driver in North Carolina suffered a minor injury after being assaulted by a middle school student, according to the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday, a Rowan County school bus was dropping students off when a fight broke out among several students on the bus.

Deputies say that as the bus was stopping, one student tried to hit another student. The bus driver tried to break up the fight and a third student got involved. The student who started the fight was then struck in the head and face by the other two students.

One of the students then jumped onto the bus driver’s back and tried to reach around to hit one of the other students, according to investigators. The bus driver was then struck in the face.

The bus driver suffered a minor injury to his nose and did not need medical treatment. None of the students were hurt.

The students were referred to juvenile court authorities and charged with simple assault. One of the juveniles was charged with the assault on the bus driver.

They were all released to the custody of their parents at the scene.
