North Carolina man wins $1 million lottery prize from convenience store scratch-off

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WGHP) — Wilbur Grant, of Charlotte, bought a $10 scratch-off ticket and won the first $1 million top prize in a new scratch-off game, according to an NC Education Lottery news release.

Grant bought his winning 50X The Cash ticket from EP Mart on South Wesleyan Boulevard in Rocky Mount.

When Grant arrived at lottery headquarters on Tuesday, he had a decision to make.

He could choose to receive his prize as an annuity of $50,000 over 20 years or a lump sum of $600,000.

He chose the lump sum of $600,000.

After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $429,003.
