Man charged in shooting in King, sheriff's office says

KING, N.C. (WGHP) — A man is facing an assault charge after a shooting in King, according to the Stokes County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 6:43 p.m. on Thursday, deputies came to the 300 block of Northfield Drive and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Deputies say the victim is “alive and recovering.”

Investigators say that the shooter was 24-year-old Paul Samuels Jr. and that he left the scene after the shooting.

Deputies say they found Samuels in Walnut Cove a short time later and he was taken into custody without incident.

He is being charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and was given an $80,000 secured bond.

Investigators say that the motive behind the shooting is unknown. However, Samuels and the victim knew one another.

The investigation is ongoing. There is no further information available at this time.
