UPDATE
A man is in custody after a deadly shooting in Martinsville overnight, according to the Martinsville Police Department.
Authorities said at 12:04 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a disturbance in the area of 54 West Church Street.
Police said upon arrival, officers found Clayborne Kent Jr., 37, of Martinsville with a gunshot wound. Kent was transported to SOVAH Health Martinsville, but died while enroute.
Authorities said after processing the scene and interviewing witnesses, the investigation led to the other person involved in the incident, 23-year-old Trequon Davis.
Davis was located and taken into custody without incident at his residence on Beaver Street in Martinsville, according to authorities.
Davis has been charged with the following:
- Manslaughter
- Reckless handling of a firearm
- Discharging a firearm in a public place resulting in an injury
Davis is being held in the Martinsville City Jail without bail, police said.

The Martinsville Police Department is investigating a homicide after they received a call at 12:04 AM for the shooting.
They say a 37-year-old man has died in the hospital after he was shot Saturday morning in the 50 block of West Church Street. Detectives say an altercation happened prior to the shooting.
Police say there is not believed to be any further danger to the public at this time.
