GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A Greenville County man is accused of shooting at an Animal Control officer before a standoff Monday.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office said an Animal Control officer was sent to the home on Tigerville Road for a dog bite.
Animal Control was attempting to serve a search warrant due to the dog attack when a fight started between the officer and 37-year-old Mahmoud A. Ghunaim, the sheriff’s office said.
During the fight, Ghunaim pulled out a gun and fired a shot at the Animal Control officer before running back into his home, according to investigators.
The sheriff’s office said Ghunaim barricaded himself inside the home with the gun and later surrendered without incident.
Ghunaim was arrested and charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
Ghunaim is being held in the Greenville County Detention Center.
