LIST: Power outages in Southwest, Central Virginia – April 12, 2024

Thousands of AEP customers across Virginia are in the dark Friday morning after the state was battered by severe weather Thursday night.

Below is a breakdown of the worst outages in our region, organized by county/city as of Friday, April 12 at about 3 p.m., according to Appalachian Power.

  • Botetourt County: 48
  • Carroll County: 11
  • Franklin County: 1,002
  • Grayson County: 88
  • Henry County: 30
  • Lynchburg: 79
  • Patrick County: 85
  • Pittsylvania County: 525
  • Pulaski County: 9
  • Roanoke County: 243
  • Roanoke: 45
  • Wythe County: 599

“Appalachian Power employees and contractors are in the field assessing damage and making repairs after heavy rain and high winds left thousands of customers without power yesterday and into the overnight hours,” Appalachian Power told 10 News. “Outages peaked at about 18,000, and the company expects to have most customers restored by late tonight.”

AEP said it estimates that power will be restored by 11 p.m. for 90% of affected customers; however, most customers will have power restored before then. Repairs are needed at more than 300 locations, according to authorities.
