Liberty University, BYU to host children’s book drive

As the Flames prepare to face the Cougars in football Saturday, the schools are coming together to hold a children’s book drive.

The Brigham Young University Education Society and BYU Alumni Association are partnering with Liberty University’s School of Education to hold the drive for fans to bring new or gently used books to the game for donation. Southern Virginia University is also supporting the drive.

“I am excited and honored that this project is the work of three faith-based institutions,” said Amanda Cox, a North Carolina Central BYU Alumni chapter member. “All three schools have such strong beliefs in the gospel of Jesus Christ, and it brings a huge smile to my face that we are working together to serve the children in central and southwest Virginia.”

The books will be collected by United Way of Central Virginia and distributed to children in need in Southwest and Central Virginia.

BYU invites fans to a pregame tailgate in the Liberty Mountain Conference Center from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Books can also be brought to the tailgate for donation.

The drive is part of the “Cougs Care” program this football season to incorporate service projects into pregame tailgates.

The game will be held this Saturday at Liberty University, with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff. Drop-off bins will be located near various entrances at Williams Stadium.
