The old Givens Books building at the intersection of East Main Street and Route 419 is destroyed after a fire Tuesday night.
The store has been closed for some time and it was scheduled for demolition already, according to Mike Stevens with the City of Salem.
As of Wednesday morning, roads have reopened to traffic and crews are no longer at the scene.
Salem Fire Deputy Chief Rickman told 10 News they are unsure if anyone was inside the building at the time of the fire.

Fire crews in Salem are still working on the fire at the old Givens Books building at the intersection of East Main Street and Route 419, according to Mike Stevens with the City of Salem.
We’re told Salem Fire and EMS responded to a 911 call at 8:05 p.m. at the old Givens Book Store.

Firefighters were able to get the main fire under control by 9:45 p.m., but they are still working on hot spots in the structure as of 10 p.m., Stevens said.
The store has been closed for some time and it was scheduled for demolition already, according to Stevens. Around 10:50 p.m., crews brought in an excavator.
Salem Fire Deputy Chief Rickman told 10 News they are unsure if anyone was inside the building at the time of the fire. They have still not made entry into the building as the building is unstable.
Roanoke City crews were called in to assist with the fire, according to Rickman.
East Main Street will remain closed to through traffic until crews have deemed the area safe for travel, authorities said.
