Former Chatham High School employee charged with selling drugs on school property, officials say

Carter is no longer an employee at Chatham High School, according to Superintendent Marc Jones.

The superintendent also said the safety concerns on school grounds have been addressed and taken care of by law enforcement.

ORIGINAL STORY

A Chatham High School employee is facing several charges after allegedly selling drugs on school property, according to the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office

Authorities say they were first alerted about Harry Berlin Carter distributing drugs from his vehicle on Jan. 30. and issued a search warrant on his car.

According to an affidavit for a search warrant, officers found 24 clear containers containing green leafy substances, which later tested positive for marijuana, officials say. A 9mm handgun and 25 plastic tubes containing rolled paper were found as well.

Carter has been charged with the following and was taken into custody on Feb. 10 at about 1:45 a.m. in connection with the incident:

• Firearm possession at a school
• Distribution of a controlled substance on school property

He is currently being held without bond at the Pittsylvania County Jail.
