Fight at South Stokes, Thomasville High School basketball game under investigation

STOKES COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — The Stokes County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a fight broke out at South Stokes High School following a basketball game.

On Friday, South Stokes High School and Thomasville High School competed in the NCHSAA Men’s Basketball Tournament 1A to see which team would make it into the Final Four. South Stokes won 76 to 71.

After the game, a fight broke out between spectators outside of the gymnasium, according to Stokes County Schools.

No one has been charged. The sheriff’s office says the case is under investigation as a disturbance and an alleged assault.

Stokes County Schools issued the following statement on Monday:

Stokes County Schools is aware of an incident at South Stokes High School following the state playoff basketball game between South Stokes High School and Thomasville High School on March 8, 2024. The incident involved an altercation between spectators outside the gymnasium and is currently under investigation by law enforcement authorities.  Stokes County Schools is assisting in this investigation and will provide such resources as may be required to support this investigation.
