HIGH POINT, N.C. — It’s been an eventful few weeks for a High Point native turned musical superstar.

Fantasia Barrino-Taylor, better known by her stage name Fantasia, was born and raised in High Point. She even attended Andrews High School.

Fantasia first rose to fame in 2004 when she won the third season of “American Idol.”

Since then, Fantasia has gone on to perform on Broadway and won a Grammy in 2012 for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for her hit single “Bittersweet.”

Her 2006 hit single “When I See U” topped the Billboard charts for Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs for eight weeks.

In 2023, Fantasia was nominated for a Golden Globe and won an NAACP Image Award for her portrayal of Celie Johnson in “The Color Purple.”

Now, Fantasia’s accomplishments in entertainment are being recognized both locally and nationally.

On June 16, Fantasia was honored by both the City of High Point and Guilford County. High Point revealed the newly named Fantasia Avenue and a key to the city. Guilford County also awarded her with a key to the county.

“Without this place I wouldn’t be me,” Fantasia wrote in an Instagram post reflecting on the honors. “High Point, N.C. made me!”

Adding to the honors, the Hollywood Walk of Fame announced that Fantasia would be receiving a star on the world-famous sidewalk on Tuesday,

“Little girl from High Point, North Carolina, made it to the @hwdwalkoffame,” Fantasia wrote on Instagram. “Wow!!!! I’m lost for words. God Kept every Promise..”
