Dobson Elementary Schools was recently awarded access to the NC Aquariums Learning Modules through the Aquarium Scholars program. These modules consist of four learning experiences, each sponsored by one of the three state aquariums along with Jennette’s Pier.
The four programs are:
Longleaf Pine Forest – Fort Fisher: Students learn about the parts of plants, how changes in the environment impact wildlife, and about the interdependence of plants and animals in an ecosystem.
Salt Marsh Food Web – Pine Knoll Shores: Students explore the animal adaptations of organisms living in the salt marshes of North Carolina;
Sea Turtle Explorations – Roanoke Island: Students will compare the human and turtle skeletal and other bodily systems. They will consider what ecosystem components allow these bodily systems to function and how sea turtle life may vary from that of humans or other species.
Life Under the Pier – Jennette’s Pier: Students will learn about the different relationships that occur in an ocean ecosystem.
Fifth graders will be using these interactive modules to further enhance and support their science curriculum.
