This has been one of the coldest weekends we’ve had all winter! I certainly did not spend much time outdoors Saturday as we dealt with frigid wind chills.
This morning, the wind is not as strong but temperatures are colder than Saturday morning. If you weigh both of those factors, it’s feeling similar to what we started the weekend with.
Temperatures go from the teens this morning to the 30s and 40s by afternoon, so we’re cold again but not as bad as yesterday.
I’m also expecting mostly cloudy skies and light snow accumulations for the western mountains through Monday morning.
Places like Snowshoe, Quinwood and Bluefield will see some snowflakes. The chance for snow further east is zero.

We have a BIG dip in the jet stream (also known as a trough) right now, which has allowed Arctic air to spill as far south as Florida.
Many of our neighbors in the eastern half of the country are well below-average for temperatures this weekend.
As the trough erodes and lifts during the work week, temperatures will rise.
The jet stream will flatten out and set up north of us Wednesday, allowing temperatures to rise into the 40s and 50s for highs as we say hello to the weather-prognosticating groundhog.
Our highs are forecast to peak Thursday, but we’ll throw some rain into the mix.
As cold air chases the precipitation, we could see a wintry mix by Friday morning. Further details on any wintry weather will come later on.
Temperatures settle back into the cold levels we have now by next weekend.
