GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — If you get a parking ticket in Greensboro, you can pay your fine with new and unwrapped school supplies or a cash donation to the Guilford Education Alliance Teacher Supply Warehouse for the next three months only.
For tickets issued between Aug. 1 and Oct. 31, the City of Greensboro will accept donations to the Guilford Education Alliance’s Teacher Supply Warehouse, where teachers can get much-needed supplies at no cost, in lieu of payment.
The city does have a few caveats. The donation must be made within 30 days of the infraction, and the cash value must be equal to or greater than the fine. Handicapped parking violations are not included in this program.
To pay your fine via cash donation, the city says you can donate to the warehouse online. In order for the donation to count towards a parking ticket, you must submit the receipt to the Greensboro Parking Office.
To pay your fine by donating school supplies, you must bring the supplies to the Greensboro Parking Office, located in the Melvin Municipal Office Building at 300 W. Washington St., along with a receipt to show that the value of the school supplies is equal to or greater than the fine.
Suggested donations include:
- Glue sticks and tape
- No. 2 and colored pencils and pencil sharpeners
- Spiral/composition notebooks
- Copy, graph and construction paper
- Arts and crafts supplies
- 2-pocket folders
- Scissors, both child and adult size
- Post-It notes
- Index cards
- Permanent markers
- Binder clips
- Staplers
