Charlotte Co. duo sentenced to nearly 2 centuries in prison in connection with 2020 fatal overdose

Two Charlotte County residents have been sentenced to nearly 200 total years in prison in connection with a 2020 deadly overdose of a 27-year-old man from Virginia Beach, according to Virginia State Police.

On June 13, 2020, 27-year-old Harrison M. Overcash died at a home in Saxe, Virginia after taking a lethal amount of a Schedule I/II narcotic, as reported by state troopers.

In an investigation led by the Tri-County Drug and Gang Task Force in partnership with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were able to identify 51-year-old Dianna Jannette Connelly, of Saxe, Virginia, and 40-year-old Jacob C. Boyer, as the ones supplying the narcotic that was sold to Overcash, resulting in his death.

Further evidence indicated that Overcash died of a lethal, mixed dosage of heroin, fentanyl and diazepam that originated out of North Carolina and was sold by Connelly in Prince Edward County. Authorities said Boyer delivered it to Overcash in Charlotte County under Connelly’s direction.

In April 2021, a Charlotte County grand jury indicted Connelly on the following:

  • Felony count of possession with the intent to distribute a Schedule I/II controlled substance
  • One felony count of possession with the intent to distribute a Schedule IV controlled substance
  • one felony count to conspire to distribute a Schedule IV controlled substance
  • Two felony counts of possession of a Schedule I/II controlled substance
  • One felony count of conspiring to distribute a Schedule I/II controlled substance

Additionally, the grand jury also indicted Boyer on the following:

According to authorities, of the 144 years Connelly was sentenced, she will serve 23 years in jail, and of the 50 years Boyer was sentenced, he will serve four years.
