4 Baja police officers arrested on suspicion of murder

SAN DIEGO (Border Report) — Four Ensenada police officers were arrested Thursday in connection with a murder.

Baja California State Police and members of Mexico’s National Guard took the officers into custody at the main police station in the coastal town of Ensenada, about 65 miles south of the border.

Witnesses say the police installation was “raided and besieged” by state and federal agents for about five minutes.

Details are limited, but a source in the Baja California prosecutor’s office says the officers are suspected of being involved in at least one murder in the region.

They are also reportedly part of a “criminal cell involved in serious crimes” throughout northern Baja.

Some of the officers now in custody are being described as “sub-commanders” who had supervisory roles in the police department.

The officers have been taken to a federal detention center.

Two other officers, reportedly tied to the four arrested Thursday night, are already in custody.
