HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — Charges were announced for the woman accused of driving a vehicle into a crowd at a festival in Pennsylvania on Monday evening, injuring three people.
Elizabeth Ann Bohrer, 37, of York Haven, Pennsylvania, is facing charges including three counts of aggravated assault by vehicle and aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI.
The Kipona Festival, an annual festival held in Harrisburg, had ended just before the incident. Police officers were in the process of clearing the area shortly after 6 p.m. when a woman driving a red minivan maneuvered around barricades and parked cars and through a crowd on South Front Street, said Captain Atah Akakpo-Martin, of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police.
Police say a 6-year-old boy and a 25-year-old woman were taken to local trauma hospitals, and an adult man was treated at the scene. The 6-year-old was said to be in critical condition as of Tuesday.
Bohrer, too, was hospitalized, Dauphin County District Attorney Fran Chardo told Nexstar’s WHTM.
The officers who arrested Bohrer reported that she appeared to be “out of it” and gave indicators she was under the influence, according to the Harrisburg Police. Bohrer also fell asleep during her interview at Dauphin County Booking, officers reported.
Harrisburg Mayor Wanda Williams extended her thoughts and prayers to the victims in a statement, adding, “Harrisburg will not tolerate reckless disregard for human life.”
Pennsylvania Senator Dave McCormick also wrote on X that he and his wife “are praying for those injured during Harrisburg’s Kipona Festival. We’re extremely grateful for our first responders and law enforcement officers who responded efficiently to this tragic situation.”
Bohrer is being held on $350,000 bail. She is awaiting a preliminary hearing on Sept. 17.
