Winter weather leads to widespread power outages across Central, Southwest Virginia

Thousands are without power due to wintry weather that hit much of Southwest and Central Virginia early Saturday morning.

We’re working for you to track outages in our region.

At this time, Appalachian Power is reporting nearly 6,000 outages across its coverage area.

Below are the worst outage areas among the 5,958 Appalachian Power customers in Central Virginia and Southwest Virginia as of 12:30 p.m.:

  • Henry County – 1,908
  • Roanoke City – 1,605
  • Bedford County – 407
  • Patrick County – 328
  • Carroll County – 130
  • Montgomery County -119
  • Buchanan – 86
  • Franklin County – 61
  • Amherst County – 57
  • Roanoke County – 39
  • Giles County – 30
  • Lynchburg City – 16
  • Grayson County – 9
  • Pulaski County – Fewer than 5
  • Bland County – Fewer than 5
  • Floyd County – Fewer than 5

Here’s a breakdown of the Dominion Energy customers in our region without power:

  • Halifax County – 255
  • Pittsylvania County – 64
  • Campbell County – 6
  • Nelson County – 4
  • Charlotte County – 2

Here’s a breakdown of the BARC Electric Cooperative customers in our region without power:

  • Bath County – 14
