Westfield resident dies in fiery crash on U.S. 52

KING — Two people were killed Monday evening when their car crashed and caught fire.

The victims were identified as the driver, Casey Dylan Sprinkle, 25, of Westfield, and passenger Justin Kyle Barneycastle, 35, of King.

At approximately 8:42 pm on Monday, City of King police and fire units were dispatched to a single vehicle accident on US Highway 52 South, just below the Moore Road-RJR exit.

The Rural Hall Fire Department, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Forsyth County Emergency Services EMS and Fire Division, and the North Carolina Highway Patrol also responded.

Emergency crews discovered a 2002 Toyota 4-Runner that was overturned on the right side of the highway which had struck two trees and caught fire. Both victims were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash resulted in the closure of US-52 South for several hours.

Barneycastle was the son of Wayne Barneycastle, chief of the Sauratown Fire Department.

This accident is still under investigation, with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol assisting.
