During its 150th anniversary, the Virginia Tech College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences is hosting its first-ever Humanities Week to honor its extensive history.
Humanities Week will be taking place Feb. 7-11, highlighting the importance of the discipline, showcasing how it has shaped society and what it means for the future.
The week will consist of in-person and online opportunities such as presentations and workshops. All events will be open to the public.
The celebration came to life when the college department strategized ways to honor Virginia Tech and its contribution to the community.
“Our goal is to showcase the wide variety of work being done in the humanities here at Virginia Tech and demonstrate how deeply the humanities enrich our world,” said Matthew Gabriele, chair of the Virginia Tech Humanities Week Steering Committee.
Notable events of the week include the Nikki Giovanni Celebration of Poetry and the keynote address presented by Kwame Anthony Appiah.
This program will give attendees the opportunity to reconnect with the community and to better understand why the humanities matter.
