WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — A police trainee has been fired after being charged in the assault of an elderly disabled person.
According to the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, on Dec. 7, 2024, they were told about an assault at an assisted living facility. Investigators determined that an elderly, disabled person had been assaulted.
On Monday, the sheriff’s office announced that Lillian Rose Sykes, 22, has been charged with misdemeanor assault on a disabled person and false imprisonment.
At the time, Sykes was a police trainee with the Winston-Salem Police Department.
The police department released a statement on Sykes’s arrest on Monday, as well, stating that she is no longer with the police department. Sykes had been hired on Nov. 25, 2024 and on Dec. 9, the police department was notified of the alleged “criminal misconduct.”
WSPD began investigating the allegations and placed Sykes on administrative leave, which is standard procedure. At that time they also became aware that DCSO was investigating.
Sykes was in the “initial stages of classroom training” with the department at the time.

With strengthened resolve, the WSPD is reaffirming its commitment and dedication to protect and serve our city with integrity and professionalism,” Chief William H.
