Temperatures to drop in Piedmont Triad

(WGHP) — Our mid-week cold front fully makes its way through the region this evening, which means we’ll start to see clearing skies into Wednesday night. Our temperatures will also be dropping behind the front as the drier and cooler air filters its way in. By 8 p.m., our temperatures will start falling through the 60s.

By Thursday morning, we’ll start the day in the low 50s, so be sure to get the jackets ready to go! We’ll see plenty of sunshine and the fall chill will return to the air. It’ll also be a little breezy with northeast winds at 10-15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph possible. Afternoon high temperatures reach the upper 60s.

Mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies to end the week. But, it’s going to feel cold Friday morning because we’ll start the day in the mid 40s. The highest elevations in the mountains could even see the first frost of the season early Friday. By the afternoon, temperatures reach the upper 60s and winds remain a little breezy out of the northeast at 5 to 15 mph.

Heading into the weekend, we’ll be watching a coastal low-pressure system move northward along the east coast. As it does, we’ll see mostly cloudy skies both Saturday and Sunday in the Triad. A low chance for showers is possible from the coastal low, mainly on Sunday and Monday in our area. However, our rain chances could change depending on the location of the center of the low and how far inland it reaches. Our temperatures this weekend will be in the low to mid 50s in the morning with highs reaching the upper 60s. The biggest impacts from the coastal low will be felt at the coast and in eastern NC where heavy rain, strong winds, rough surf and beach erosion are all likely.

On Monday, we’ll start the day in the mid 50s and afternoon temperatures will climb into the low 70s. Skies will be partly cloudy and a lingering shower chance remains as the coastal low continues its track northward. The chance for rain is 20%.

Mostly sunny skies return Tuesday and Wednesday with morning lows in the mid 50s and afternoon highs reaching the mid 70s.
