COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A teenager was killed in an early Wednesday morning crash on I-95 near Walterboro, according to Colleton County Fire Rescue.
A Florida couple traveling on the interstate noticed a fast-moving Honda car leave the roadway and hit a tree around 2:45 a.m.
Fire-rescue officials said the car suffered “massive damage with the tree entering the car as far as the rear seats,” and trapped the driver inside.
After witnessing the crash, the couple called 911 and then attempted to pull the driver from the car; however, the vehicle caught on fire.

A responding deputy ran to the burning car to help the couple pull the driver to safety, but the flames pushed them away.
Officials said the driver, believed to be an 18-year-old from Florida, died in the crash. They said crews worked for 30 minutes to extricate him, but the teenager was “heavily entrapped in the wreckage.”
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
