WALNUT COVE, N.C. (WGHP) — If the warm temperatures give you spring fever, it’s a great time to explore a place where the whole family can play.
A local farm is opening up its barn doors to everyone, and Brad Jones found you can bring home more than just some pretty pictures, because everything they turn out is Made in North Carolina.
You’ll find more than a hundred thousand tulips in bloom at Armstrong Artisan Farm in Stokes County. They’re ready to cut and take home a few of your favorite colors, or you can dig up the bulbs and plant them in your garden so you can enjoy the blooms for years to come.
Austin Armstrong and his family invite folks to come out to their farm to learn more about what they do every day, something that would have seemed a little strange to his father and grandfather.
“Nobody would have ever dreamed that people would come out to your farm for the experience,” he told us, adding that “it’s really made a difference… so it’s really been a huge blessing for us”.
They produce traditional row crops like corn and soybeans, along with meat and eggs. But families come here for the beauty as well because the fields full of flowers offer a perfect backdrop for spring pictures.
There are also plenty of games and activities, like hay rides on a wagon pulled by Belgian Draft Horses, which they also use sometimes to pull a traditional plow.
“Some of them grasp a little bit more about how much it really takes to grow something or to get something to that final product. I really think that they get to share a little bit in that opportunity”, Austin told us as he looked out across the field on a spring morning.
Now that the flowers are blooming, they’ll see everyone from families to school groups and Scout troops, who want to get that same experience firsthand.
Armstrong Artisan Farm’s Spring Festival is underway right now. They are located at 1499 Brook Cove Road in Walnut Cove. To find out more and buy tickets, go to their website.
