Staff members charged in assault case at North Carolina developmental center

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Two staff members at the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center are facing charges for assaulting two residents during a supervised outing.

According to the report, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office was contacted Wednesday in reference to an incident that occurred during a supervised outing by the staff of the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center.

The group had traveled to a local park in Burke County for a recreational activity involving residents of the facility. During the outing, it was reported that two staff members assaulted two different residents of the center.

Following the initial report, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office initiated a full investigation into the matter.

As a result of the investigation, Zolio Collado Jr. was charged with Assault on an Individual with Disability and given a $20,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for August 18.

Benny Edward Brice IV was charged with felony Assault on an Individual with Disability and given a $50,000 bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for June 23.
