Shoals Elementary School’ss annual Kids Heart Challenge in memory of Dale Venable was another success.
Dale was a former student at Shoals, who lost his life to heart disease at a young age. His mother Jane Venable was a former teacher at Shoals. Since his passing Shoals Elementary has held this event in his memory.
Students collect money in honor or in memory of a loved one and the money raised goes to the National Heart Association. Juliana West, the school’s physical education teacher, agreed to a pie in the face challenge for any students who collected at least $150. There were 11 students who brought in at least $150.
The student who collected the most money would have the honor of having the school gym named after them for the remainder of the year. The student who collected the most this year was Jason Nichols. Jason raised $1,208.48. The total raised this year was $7,445.10. The classroom that collected the most money will be treated to a sub party by Jane and Mitchell Venable. That classroom was Shirley Ashburn’s third grade.
