DOBSON – Melissa Recknor, director of Student Success and Academic Advising at Surry Community College, has been elected to the leadership position of High School to College Chair within the National Academic Advising Association known as NACADA: The Global Community for Academic Advising.
“Being elected to this NACADA leadership position is not only a fine tribute by one’s peers but is also recognition of significant professional contributions to and excellence in the field of academic advising,” said Erin Justyna, president of the organization.
“Melissa is a tremendous asset not only to the Office of Student Services, but also to Surry Community College.” said Sabrina Terry, dean of Student Services. “Although Melissa’s professional background is in assisting students transitioning from high school to college, she also knows how to adjust her advising practices to assist non-traditional students. Melissa is a leader among her peers, because of her enthusiasm and commitment to providing holistic advising to each student.”
The association provides support for individuals dedicated to delivering high quality academic advising on campuses. Members of the Academic Advising Consultants and Speakers Service provide assistance to institutions across the nation. the advising association maintains membership in the Council for the Advancement of Standards, a consortium of professional associations committed to implementing standards for practice in higher education.
