Are you impatient like I am? I’m not boasting; this is a confession of my shortcoming in this area of my life. I am God’s work in progress, and know I must continue to learn patience; and learn to wait on the Lord also. In these times of drive-thru food, electronic transfer, and instant almost everything, most of us probably struggle some with this. I know patience is a virtue, and a fruit of the Spirit, and I want all of God’s fruit in my life, and I want it right now.
How many of you have prayed for something and you’re still waiting for God to answer? God has given us some key verses to remind us not to give up, but to keep coming to Him in prayer, such as I Thessalonians 2:13 “Pray without ceasing;” Luke 18:1-8…”men ought always to pray, and not to faint;” and Lamentations 3:25-26 “The Lord is good unto them that wait for Him, to the soul that seeks Him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.” And, Psalm 27:14 “Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.”
You may ask, How can I hang on, until I see God grant my prayer? The answer my dear sister or brother is, have faith in God!
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths;” and, Isaiah 40:29,31 “He gives power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increases strength…But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” And, Joshua 1:9 “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for (because) the Lord thy God is with thee where soever thou go.”
The Holy Scriptures are filled with God’s sure promises, and multitudes of people’s stories who believed on God’s Word, and His deliverance, and His protection, and His provision, and His healing, and His granting of their prayers. God does hear the honest prayer of His dear children, and He is faithful to those who trust in Him, and wait for His sure answer.
Still only 99% convinced? Mark 9:17-27 tells the eyewitness record of a man who had a son who was being severely harmed by the demons that possessed him. The father prayed to Jesus, “if Thou canst do anything, have compassion on us, and help us. Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believes. And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord I believe; help Thou mine unbelief.”
We can do the same. Pray for Jesus to help your unbelief to become total belief in Him. His authority. His power, His love for you, and His desire to answer your prayer of faith. God is greater than anything and everything you will ever face. God seldom replies to doubt, but He does respond to faith. That man and his son now fully believe.
In Luke 8:41-56 we see two stories within one. A man came to ask Jesus to heal his 12-year-old daughter who was dying, but when Jesus began to go with him, a woman with a blood disorder, also for 12 years, came to touch the hem of His garment with the faith that He could, and would heal her. “…she was healed immediately. And He said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace. While He yet spake, there comes one from the rulers house, saying to him, thy daughter is dead: trouble not the Master. But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole.” Jesus, who is the resurrection and the life, took the young girl by the hand, said arise, and brought her spirit back to life.
In Matthew 9:26-31, Jesus asked two blind men, “Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto Him, yea, Lord. Then touched He their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you. And their eyes were opened.”
I believe only, how about you? Your faith in Jesus makes you whole; and if not in this life, then certainly in the next. When we only believe, we are filled to the full with faith, with room for nothing else. No room at all for doubt. Habakkuk 2:3-4, 14 “Wait for it; because it will surely come…“For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as waters cover the sea.”
