Power outages strike county

Two power outages left nearly 900 Duke Energy customers without electric service this morning.

The largest of the two outages, in Dobson, left 848 customers without power for more than an hour, according to Duke Energy. Those customers had power restored around 11:30 a.m., according to the company.

A smaller outage affecting 19 customers also occurred just east of Mount Airy. Duke Energy said it had received the first report of that outage at 10:39 a.m. and expected to have service restored to those customers by 2:45 p.m.

High winds have caused a number of scattered power outages across North Carolina, with nearly 2,000 total outages reported at one point around 11 a.m. At that time, the Dobson-area outage was the single largest one in the state, according to Duke Energy.
