Two men were shot in downtown Roanoke around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, according to Roanoke police. The shooting happened in the 100 block of Campbell Avenue Southeast.
After hearing several gunshots, police say they located a man with what appeared to be serious gunshot wounds. He was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital by medics.
Another man arrived at the hospital via personal transport and it was determined his injuries were from the same incident.
Police say a “large caliber rifle” was possibly used. They confirm “several” shots were fired, but could not provide specifics as the investigation is ongoing.
Some witnesses say the gunfire lasted several minutes, which police confirm.
There is “a lot” of property damage to cars and storefronts in the area, police say.
There was an event, a headphone party in Market Square called “Shhhh Issa Silent Party” hosted by The Humble Hustle Company, Inc. at the time of the shooting. We spoke to Humble Hustle Founder Xavier Duckett who said the event wasn’t connected to the shooting.
On Sunday, The Humble Hustle posted a statement on Facebook regarding the incident:
Campbell Avenue at Market Square to Williamson Road remains closed.
No suspect information was provided.
