ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTW) — A now-former Robeson County Detention Center officer is among eight people who have been charged so far in a drug investigation that began last month after jail staff members found an inmate with illegal narcotics, deputies said.
Landon Strickland, 22, of Lumberton, was among seven people arrested on Thursday, deputies said. He was charged with felony Conspiracy and continuing criminal enterprise and given a $550,000 secured bond.
The others arrested on Thursday face the same charges and are also being held on $550,000 secured bonds. They are:
- Dylan Sirman, 23, of Lumberton; he was also charged on Aug. 22 with felony possession of a controlled substance in a jail and given a $50,000 secured bond
- Jamie Sirmans, 64, of Lumberton
- Joshua Sirmans, 45, of Lumberton
- Jamie West-Britt, 42, of Lumberton
- Jaylen West, 18, Lumberton
- Don Christopher Hawes, 44, of Bladenboro, North Carolina
The remaining suspect, Kenryn McMillian, 42, of Maxton, was charged on Aug. 22 with felony possession of a controlled substance in a jail and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also given a $50,000 secured bond.
Deputies said jail staff members found the inmate with the drugs on Aug. 21. The subsequent investigation led authorities to unspecified amounts of methamphetamine, suboxone strips and weapons.
Investigators then “conducted multiple interviews and searches throughout the investigation, which uncovered a broader conspiracy involving individuals both inside and outside the detention center,” the sheriff’s office said.
“This extensive investigation by Robeson County Sheriff’s Detectives revealed that multiple inmates, along with friends, relatives, and even one of our own detention officers, conspired together to sell, deliver, and distribute drugs while operating what can only be described as a felony criminal enterprise,” Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said. “This type of behavior undermines the safety and security of our jail, betrays the public’s trust, and places the lives of both staff and inmates at risk. I want to commend the investigators and staff who worked tirelessly to uncover and dismantle this operation.”
The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely, the sheriff’s office said. Anyone with information is asked to call 910-671-3191.
