Nearly 1 million bottles of wine sold at Costco recalled, injury reported: CPSC

(WJW)- Nearly 1 million bottles of wine sold at Costco stores are being recalled after reports of the bottles shattering, leading to at least one laceration injury, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The recalled bottles of wine were sold in a dozen states, including Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, from April 2025 through August 2025, for about $8.

Here’s what consumers should check for:

  • Product: Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco DOCG bottles
  • UPC: 196633883742
  • Costco Item Number: 1879870.
  • Description: The product was sold in a green bottle with purple foil on the top and a purple label with the words “Kirkland Signature Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG”.

Consumers are advised to “immediately stop” using the recalled bottles and not attempt to open them.

“Consumers should discard the recalled bottles in their household trash and contact Ethica Wines for instructions on how to obtain a full refund from Costco,” states the recall.

The recall impacts about 941,000 bottles.
