FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Investigators have revealed what caused a home in Forsyth County to explode, injuring four people on July 24.
The Griffith Fire Department was first notified of a possible gas odor near the home that would later explode at 9:52 p.m. on July 24. At the time, firefighters were unable to find the source of the gas odor
The explosion occurred at 11:58 p.m. on July 24 at a home on Friedberg Church Road in Forysth County.
Firefighters say that there were four people inside the home and that their injuries ranged from minor to life-threatening. One person was entrapped inside the home while it was on fire and suffered a secondary collapse.
Firefighters entered the home and found the trapped victim. They gave them lifesaving aid before turning them over to Forsyth County EMS, who took them to a local hospital.
The other 3 victims were also inside the home when the explosion occurred and were given aid by the firefighters as well before being taken to the hospital by EMS. Two of those victims have since been released from the hospital.
One of the victims who remains hospitalized is suffering from burns to 40% of their body and the other victim who is still in the hospital is suffering from burns to 22% of their body.
A firefighter was also taken to the hospital due to suffering from heat exhaustion and has since been released.
Investigators have ruled that the cause of the house fire was a natural gas explosion. They are still working to locate the source of the gas leak that caused the home to ignite.
