More than 27,000 without power as winter weather hits Southwest, Central Virginia

Thousands are without power as Southwest and Central Virginia are experiencing wintry weather.

Below are the worst outage areas among the 9,844 Appalachian Power customers in Virginia without power:

Here’s a breakdown of the 1,027 Dominion Energy customers in our region without power:

  • Halifax County: 504
  • Alleghany County: 365
  • Charlotte County: 123
  • Botetourt County: 27
  • Campbell County: 8

Danville officials say that 1,200 customers on Memorial Drive, Lanier Avenue, Park Avenue, Bishop Road and across the river on Piedmont Drive are without power.

Here’s a breakdown of the 2,257 Mecklenburg Electric customers in our region without power:

  • Halifax County: 1,592
  • Pittsylvania County: 665

Here’s a breakdown of the 7,166 Craig-Botetourt Rural Electric Cooperative customers in our region without power:

  • Craig County: 2,385
  • Botetourt County: 2,064
  • Alleghany County: 1,515
  • Roanoke: 724
  • Montgomery County: 478

Here’s a breakdown of the 660 BARC Electric Cooperative customers in our region without power:

  • Alleghany County: 321
  • Bath County: 228
  • Highland County: 110
  • Rockbridge County: 1

Here’s a breakdown of the 5,089 Southside Electric Cooperative customers in our region without power:

  • Charlotte County: 3,180
  • Campbell County: 1,092
  • Pittsylvania County: 418
  • Appomattox County: 267
  • Bedford County: 132
