FORSYTH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A man will spend years in prison after pleading guilty to the 2020 shooting death of a man in Winston-Salem.
According to the Forsyth County District Attorney’s Office, on Thursday, Javaris Terrell Robbins, 26, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.
On May 31, 2020, around 2 a.m., the Winston-Salem Police Department received around 15 911 calls about a shooting on Charleston Court. At the scene, they found Phillip Tyrone Legette, 21, who had been shot in the head and the neck. EMS pronounced him dead after arriving on the scene.
Witnesses reportedly told officers that there was a gathering in the parking lot in which Legette and Robbins got into an argument. Robbins pulled out a gun and shot Legette and then fled the scene.
Robbins was charged with Legette’s murder in 2023.
In addition to the charges in this case, Robbins pleaded guilty to additional charges he was facing since his arrest, including possession of a controlled substance in the detention center.
