Schools in Bedford County were placed on lockdown due to a deadly shooting on Monday morning, according to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said that they received a 911 call from Villamont Road in Blue Ridge just before 11 a.m. Monday.
The caller told authorities that a man had shot himself and that while deputies were en route, another man had been shot.
As a precaution, area schools were placed on lockdown.
When deputies arrived, they said they found two men who were shot. Authorities said one man was pronounced dead at the scene, and another was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Deputies are still at the scene investigating, but authorities said there is no immediate threat and school lockdowns have been lifted.
