GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — The Greensboro district attorney will not be requesting an investigation into allegations against a former city attorney, according to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
On July 1, city employees learned of allegations against former City Attorney Chuck Watts, and the Greensboro Police Department contacted the SBI. The allegations called into question business transactions by Watts.
Watts retired “effective immediately” on July 2 in a closed city council session, according to the GPD.
An SBI representative said a formal request by the district attorney is needed to open an investigation.
The SBI released the following statement on Friday:
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) met with the Guilford County District Attorney this morning to discuss documents received from the Greensboro Police Department regarding the former Greensboro City Attorney. At the conclusion of the meeting, the District Attorney informed the SBI that she will NOT be requesting an investigation.
