Forsyth County inmate found dead 3 days after arrest, sheriff says

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — An inmate has died in custody at the Forsyth County Detention Center just days after his arrest, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

On Saturday at 5:21 p.m., David Elliot Dickerson, 72, was found unresponsive while detention center staff were completing rounds. Following resuscitative efforts, Dickerson was pronounced dead.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was contacted to complete its independent investigation.

Dickerson was arrested on Wednesday for charges including statutory sex offense with a child by an adult and indecent liberties with a minor.
