Fallout continues over Trump and Zelenskyy meeting

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – The fall out between President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s president continues.

The two leaders are still not on the same page.  Right now, President Trump is pressuring President Volodymyr Zelenskyy into signing a ceasefire deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin

Zelenskyy says without security assurances guaranteeing Putin will not violate those terms he is uninterested.

Three days after the shouting match heard around the world President Trump and President Zelenskyy are still at odds over how to end Ukraine’s war with Russia.

Zelenskyy said Sunday a peace agreement is still very, very far away following a meeting with European leaders.

The statement sparked backlash in Washington.

“He better not be right about that,” said Trump.

On Truth Social, President Trump blasted Zelenskyy calling it the worst statement he could have made adding, “America will not put up with it for much longer”.

He accuses Zelenskyy of not wanting peace.

“I just think he should be more appreciative,” said Trump.

Echoing the president, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz, told reporters NATO allies must step up if they want to keep Ukraine and Europe safe.

“They have to also invest in the capabilities to do so,” said Waltz.

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer says Europe is prepared to increase support and map out a peace plan.

“Britain will play a leading role, with if necessary and together with others, boots on the ground and planes in the air,” said Starmer.

Democrats accuse President Trump of siding with Putin and urge the White House to not abandon U.S. allies.

“I just think Americans leadership was so hurt by what happened in the white house and we need to get that back again,” said Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.).

Republicans expressed frustration with Zelenskyy’s behavior.

Over the weekend House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) suggested Zelenskyy resign over his remarks in the Oval Office.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio who was in the room that day says the goal is to get back to the negotiation table.
